When we purchased the TP-LINK Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb from an Amazon Pop-Up Store, we were told that it also supported Apple HomeKit since the TP-LINK Kasa App could be installed on the iPhone. However, having an App on the iPhone is very different from a device being HomeKit compatible.
One way to quickly tell if a device doesn't support HomeKit is that it doesn't have a HomeKit sticker containing an 8 digit code that is used to add the device to your HomeKit environment. TP-LINK Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb's documentation and product did not have this sticker and of course there was no sticker that claims it works with Apple HomeKit.
When we used the Home App on an Apple iPad Pro, we weren't able to add the TP-LINK Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb.
The only way you can add and control the TP-LINK Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb is through the Kasa App which unfortunately is only sized for the iPhone and is rather unwieldy on the Apple iPad Pro.
With HomeKit, you get the benefits of being able to use Apple's Home App to automate your different HomeKit devices as well as use Siri for voice command. In general, HomeKit devices are easier to add and monitor with the Apple Home App, and provide a more integrated Apple user experience.
