The IOGEAR Thunderbolt 2 KVM / Docking Station is the next generation of KVM solutions designed for Thunderbolt 2 computers. KVM solutions allow a user to keep the same keyboard, mouse, and display setup to control multiple computers. In traditional KVM solutions, you need to have multiple USB, audio, and display cables to connect each computer but with a Thunderbolt KVM, all you need is a single Thunderbolt cable for each upstream computer.
The IOGEAR Thunderbolt 2 KVM / Docking Station has two upstream Thunderbolt 2 (20 Gb/s) ports to connect to two Thunderbolt based Mac's or PC's. There is also another Thunderbolt 2 port to daisy chain other Thunderbolt peripherals.
On the docking side, there are three USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s), two USB 2.0 (480 Mb/s), one eSATA Gen 3 (6 Gb/s), one HDMI 1.4, one Gigabit Ethernet, and one microphone and one speaker 3.5 mm audio ports. Note all USB ports are USB Type-A based. Unlike Thunderbolt 3 which uses USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 2 uses a mini DisplayPort connector.
