Mobike is a handy way to get around in China and you'll see the orange Mobike's all around cities like Shanghai.

Once you find the Mobike you want to use, you can use the Mobike App to unlock the bike. Note you'll need to have a Mobike account and fund your Mobike account through WeChat or some other China online payment scheme. Note to get funds into WeChat you need to have a local China bank account or give cash to someone with WeChat to then transfer the funds into your WeChat account.

On the Mobike App, you'll need to then scan the Mobike's barcode found in the middle of the front handle bars or near the back tire. Here we use the Huawei P9 to unlock the Mobike with the App.

The Mobike App will then communicate with the bike to unlock the back tire.

Once unlocked, the App tracks where you ride and the resulting expenses that Mobike will discount from your Mobike account. You can also use the App to easily find Mobike's to use.

China right now is filled with various colored shared bike services with orange Mobike being common in Shanghai while yellow Ofo being common in Beijing. You can see shared bike ads everywhere in China but unfortunately you can also see a lot of discarded shared bikes which are costly for the shared bike companies to deal with and are a growing problem.
