It's easy to use your LG B6 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class to directly control your cable, satellite, or U-verse TV set-top box. Assuming the set-top box is already connected to the TV through one of the HDMI ports, press the STB button on the remote to pull up the Set Up Universal Control pop-up window on the TV.
After selecting 'YES', you will get brought to the Device Connector screen (you can also get here through the Home menu).
You'll need to select which HDMI port your set-top box is connected to.
You can then set up the LG TV's Magic Remote to emulate the set-top box's own remote so you can use the Magic Remote to control the set-top box. This is highly recommended so you don't need to fumble around trying to figure out which remote to use.
To emulate the set-top box remote, you need to choose what service provider supplied you the set-top box. In our case, we chose AT&T U-verse in the San Francisco area.
You next need to choose the manufacturer of the set-top box which you should be able to determine by looking around the outside of the set-top box.
If you make a mistake and choose the wrong manufacturer, the virtual remote buttons will not be able to control the set-top box, and you'll need to return to the previous menu.
If you choose 'Not in the list', LG will warn that it will be unable to set the universal control function.
Eventually, we chose Motorola since that was the label on the front of the AT&T U-verse set-top box.
You should have the set-top box right next ot the TV so that it's easier to navigate the Magic remote cursor to click the virtual channel change and menu buttons. Once clicked, the set-top box will receive the IR based remote commands from the Magic Remote and you should be able to control the set-top box channels and open its menu.
After you can demonstrate control of the set-top box using LG's Magic Remote, you can click next to complete the process.
One of the benefits of setting the service provider is now you can select Guide from the LG B6 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class's home menu and see all the program listings and channels.
The LG B6 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class's Magic Remote works well controlling the AT&T U-verse set-top box and it's easy to switch back to watching local news and sports programs simply by selecting the remote's STB button while using Netflix, YouTube, or other Apps.
