The LG 16W Travel Adapter that came with the LG G6 and LG G5 can supply up to 16 watts to keep the phones charged through its USB Type-A connector that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The LG 16W Travel Adapter uses 16.2 watts (9 volts @ 1.8 amps) and 9 watts (5 volts @ 1.8 amps) power profiles for 16 watts based charging, which we find out here if this charger can also be used with a non Qualcomm Quick Charge enabled phone like the Moto X4.
In addition to USB Power Delivery based charging, the Moto X4 also supports Motorola's own proprietary TurboPower technology for fast charging over the USB Type-C connector on the phone. Let's see how well it works with the LG 16W Travel Adapter from a 9% battery charge on the phone when observed through the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 power analyzer.
When connected to the USB Type-C port of the Moto X4, the phone is turned on and starts pulling current up to about 0.5 amps at 5 volts. After 67 seconds of steady state charging at around 2.5 watts (5 volts @ 0.5 amps), the current level drops quickly to below .1 amps which doesn’t really allow for any proper charging.
The Moto X4 unfortunately has problems working with the LG 16W Travel Adapter using Qualcomm Quick Charge, but the phone is able to achieve 15W optimum charging using Motorola's own TurboPower based charger as seen here.
