It's interesting to see how you can use a non Apple charger like the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter to quickly charge the new Apple iPhone 8 (check pricing on Amazon). The Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter is a USB Power Delivery based charger that comes with the  Google Pixel phone while the Apple iPhone 8 supports fast charging through USB Power Delivery over the Apple Lightning connector.

We use a Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable to directly connect the Apple iPhone 8 with the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter while the iPhone's battery is at 26%. Using the GRL-USB-PD-A1 App by Granite River Labs, we can see the Google charger starts communicating over USB Power Delivery by repeatedly offering 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) and 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) to the iPhone.

Initially we see the Apple iPhone 8 requests 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) from the Google charger which it then accepts.

After a while the Apple iPhone 8 can be seen to request the highest PDO of 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) which the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter also complies.

Starting from 26% battery at power on, the Apple iPhone 8 initially pulls current to about 2.6 amps @ 5 volts from the Google charger. Near 10 seconds, the iPhone goes on to charge at 11.8 watts (9.1 volts @ 1.3 amps). We also observed similar charging when used with the  Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter in this review which confirms the iPhone works with the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter. This is also a more efficient way to charge the iPhone than using its own 5 watts based charger.
