The Garmin vivosmart HR is a well designed fitness tracker and Garmin has done a good job to make sure it works well with a variety of mobile devices like the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro.
However to use it with the Xiaomi, you first need to install the Garmin Connect App which is not available on the Xiaomi Mi App Store.
If you search for the Garmin Connect App on Baidu, you can actually find and install it. However, Baidu has an older version of the App which needs to be updated in order to support the Garmin vivosmart HR. This update unfortunately doesn't work.
If you purchased your Xiaomi in China but managed to get Google Play installed on your phone or purchased your Xiaomi Mi Note Pro outside of China where Google Play is already installed, you are in better luck. Just look for the Garmin Connect Mobile App to download on Google Play and install.
After you open the Garmin Connect Mobile App, you then need to select Yes in the Connect a Device screen and then select vivo followed by vivosmart HR in the Add a Device screens.
After adding your personal information, the App will start the pairing process between the Xiaomi and the vivosmart HR. Remember to go to press the button on the side of the vivosmart HR to enter settings and swipe your finger until you see the Bluetooth icon. After selecting Bluetooth, you need to swipe again until you see Pair Smartphone and then select it.
You'll need to quickly enter the number that you will then see on your vivosmart HR's screen into the App to complete the pairing process. Don't try to pair the vivosmart HR through Xiaomi's Bluetooth setup menu.
Once the pairing process is completed, the rest is simple. You can complete more customizations and the Garmin Connect Mobile will periodically sync with the vivosmart HR.
After all the customizations, you are ready to play and Garmin provides a lot of vibrant looking screens that help you track your fitness stats. Looking at the fitness data analyzed on the graphs and tracking performance to goals can actually be fun, especially when you can share them with family and friends.
With Garmin being a popular global brand, it's great to see that it works well with Xiaomi, one of the best known brands in China and the rest of Asia.
