Black Magic eGPU Pro

by Black Magic Design

Black Magic eGPU Pro offloads GPU processing power and connectivity from your Mac but we found display enumeration issues when connecting the Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Monitor over HDMI to the eGPU and the Apple 13" MacBook Air (2020) connected over Thunderbolt 3.

We see the Black Magic eGPU Pro provides 50W of power to the Apple 13" MacBook Air (2020).

While the Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Monitor is already connected to the Black Magic eGPU Pro over HDMI, when we connect the Apple 13" MacBook Air (2020) over Thunderbolt 3, we can see that the monitor enumerates under the Black Magic eGPU Pro's Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU. However, the Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Monitor remains dark and can't be used from the Apple 13" MacBook Air (2020). We need to unplug and plug the HDMI cable in order for the Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Monitor to become lit and usable by the Mac.

We don't see this Dell HDMI enumeration problem when using the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock but in this case, the display is connected to the Mac's internal Intel Iris Pro GPU.
