Hoping to use the StarTech Mini USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter - 50m (165ft) Class 1 EDR Wireless Dongle in action with the Apple MacBook (Early 2016), we were disappointed to see that the MacBook would never switch from its native Bluetooth controller to the StarTech dongle's Bluetooth controller. We saw this behavior with the StarTech Mini USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter - 50m (165ft) Class 1 EDR Wireless Dongle connected to the Apple MacBook (Early 2016) through the either the Plugable USB-A to USB-C Passive Adapter Cable or the CalDigit Type-C Dock. We observed the same issue on the Apple MacBook (Early 2015).
We can see that the StarTech Mini USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter - 50m (165ft) Class 1 EDR Wireless Dongle enumerates correctly on the Mac's System Information USB Device Tree.
However, the MacBook stays locked to its Broadcom based Bluetooth controller and is never able to switch to the dongle's CSR Bluetooth controller despite multiple attempts.
