The Apple Mac Pro (Late 2013) was a big departure for Apple from its previous Mac Pro chassis style models, going with a compact and stylish design that used Thunderbolt 3 to add external peripherals and PCI Express cards.  With the new Apple iMac Pro combines this concept with its iMac line of all-in-ones like the iMac with Retina 5K giving you more utility through a high quality color accurate screen.

Compared to the Thunderbolt 2 (20 Gb/s) based Apple Mac Pro (Late 2013) and iMac with Retina 5K, the Apple iMac Pro gives you four Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C ports which support Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s), USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s), and DisplayPort 1.2 to connect with two 5K@60hz displays or four 4K@60hz displays.

The Apple iMac Pro not only has a 27-inch Retina 5K (5120 x 2880) display like the previous 5K iMac, but also supports additional wide color P3 standard and 500 nits brightness. This should further enhance the clarity of the display and the crispness of every single pixel on the large screen size.

A standout feature of the iMac has always been the many interface ports it offers which complements well to ultra thin notebook models like the Apple MacBook (Early 2015) which only has one.  In addition to having four Thunderbolt 3 ports, the Apple iMac Pro is also the first Mac to support an additional 10Gb/s standard with NBASE-T Ethernet.  Most people are familiar with Gigabit Ethernet 1000BASE-T ports which supports 10, 100, and 1000Gb/s connections.  NBASE-T extends these connection speeds to 2.5, 5, and 10 Gb/s which is useful for professionals needing to move around a lot of media.  The Apple iMac Pro also has four USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) ports, one UHS-II based SDXC SD card slot, and one headphone output jack.

For superb graphics performance, the Apple iMac Pro relies on its built in 8GB Radeon Pro Vega 56 graphics processor as well as the latest Intel Xeon processor.

With the high-end offerings, the Apple iMac Pro is expected to come with a premium price tag which could also be one of the most expensive computers made by Apple. On the other hand the iMac would fit well with professionals looking for highly color accurate displays to edit movies or TV shows.
