What To Do With All My Existing Thunderbolt Peripherals on the New Thunderbolt 3 Based MacBook Pro (Late 2016)
With the MacBook Pro (Late 2016) moving to Thunderbolt 3, what should you do with all the Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 peripherals that you purchased?
Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 uses a Mini DisplayPort connector while Thunderbolt 3 has moved to the USB Type-C connector.
To help bridge the two, Apple also released the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.
Just plug the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter into one of the Thunderbolt 3 ports on the MacBook Pro (Late 2016), and then connect the legacy Thunderbolt cable or peripheral to the adapter. This should allow you to now access the legacy Thunderbolt peripheral with the MacBook Pro (Late 2016).
We'll be testing the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter to see how well it works with various legacy Thunderbolt peripherals.
