OnePlus 2 Equals Amazing
Chinese smartphone companies are keen competitors facing a very crowded market at home. Many are eyeing India's large consumer market and are taking advantage that many local Indian brands like Micromax are sourcing phones from similar factories in China and don't really have a unique advantage.
OnePlus 2 is an example of a phone that is less well known in China but has made inroads into China. This solid Android phone was launched in July 2015 and comes with Dual SIM and premium hardware specifications all at a low price. The OnePlus 2 is also one of the first smartphones launched to support the new USB Type-C interface.
I purchased the OnePlus 2 in Bangalore through Amazon India.
The phone comes with a 5.50-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels. The OnePlus 2 ships with OnePlus' OxygenOS, which is based on Android.
In terms of accessories, the OnePlus 2 comes with a USB Type-C cable and power charger.
It is one of the first Android phones to market with a reversible USB Type-C charging port. Interestingly, the supplied cable is also designed to be reversible at the Type-A end back to the power charger. No more fumbling around with the USB connector trying to figure out which side is the right side up.
In comparison with the original OnePlus 1, the OnePlus 2 also has a slightly higher-capacity battery, now 3,300 mAh rather than the previous 3,100 mAh cell. The OnePlus 2 is also dual-SIM and both SIMs can operate on 4G.
The OnePlus 2 comes with only one color - "Sandstone" but you can add different back covers if you want to change the color.
OnePlus 2 also has better performing hardware. The OnePlus 2 processor is now 1.8 GHz Octa Core as compared to the previous 2.5 GHz Quad-Core. RAM is 4 GB now as compared to the previous 3 GB of RAM.
Consumers in India will benefit greatly from the OnePlus 2 and the many other low cost high performance smartphones which will be launched from China. In the meantime, local brands like Micromax will need to find new innovation and adjust their business model to adjust to this new hyper competitive reality.
