The Beats Solo3 Wireless has amazing Class 1 Bluetooth performance allowing it to wireless play audio up to 100 meters.  If you have a Mac like the MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), the native Bluetooth performance is Class 2 which is rated up to 10 meters.

When we first used the MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)'s native Bluetooth to connect to the Beats Solo3 Wireless, we only saw an effective Bluetooth of about 15 meters (using clear line of sight).

To see how the StarTech Mini USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter - 50m (165ft) Class 1 EDR Wireless Dongle can boost the Bluetooth wireless range of the MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), we turned off Bluetooth on the Mac, inserted the dongle, and then turned the Bluetooth on the Mac back on.   We could confirm in the System Information's USB screen that the Bluetooth dongle was enumerating correctly.  No driver installation was required.

On the Mac, you can verify that the Bluetooth MAC address has changed to the dongle by holding down the option key and pressing the Bluetooth icon on the top right.  Here we see the MAC address changed from the Mac's native 80-e6-50-03-93-d9 to the dongle's 00-1a-7d-da-71-15.

Once you pair the Beats Solo3 Wireless with the Mac, you can actually see the headphone's battery level in the Bluetooth screen.

The Bluetooth connection between the Beats Solo3 Wireless and the StarTech Mini USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter - 50m (165ft) Class 1 EDR Wireless Dongle works really well up to the 50 meters (using clear line of sight) advertised by StarTech although it doesn't reach the full 100 meters potential of Class 1 Bluetooth.

We can use the System Information's Bluetooth screen to look at the wireless signal strength by monitoring the RSSI value.

At 0 meters, the RSSI value is -51 db.

At 10 meters, the RSSI value drops to -74 db.

At 20 meters, the RSSI value drops further to -84 db.

At 30 meters, the RSSI value drops a little to -85 db.

At 40 meters, the RSSI value stays at -85 db.

At 50 meters, the RSSI value also stays at -85 db.

If you have situations where you need to  Bluetooth connection between the Beats Solo3 Wireless and the StarTech Mini USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter - 50m (165ft) Class 1 EDR Wireless Dongle works really well up to the 50 meters (using clear line of sight) advertised by StarTech although it doesn't reach the full 100 meters potential of Class 1 Bluetooth.
