How to Set Up the iPhone 7

The Apple iPhone 7 has a large number of features so it's always interesting to see how Apple takes users through the entire setup process.  Compared to other phones, there are generally more setup screens to go through so some patience is required.

After the initial multi-language greetings screen, you'll need to select your language, country/region, and connect to a WI-FI network.  If you don't have access to a WI-FI network, you can use a cellular connector.

Once the iPhone connects to the Apple servers and is activated, you can enable Location services and create a passcode.

You can then choose to restore from a backup, move your data from an Android phone, or just use the iPhone 7 as a new phone.  You will also need to log in or set up an Apple ID and accept Apple's Terms and Conditions.

After Apple communicates back to its servers your Apple ID and iCloud settings, you will then get asked to set up Apple Pay.

For security reasons, you can approve the iPhone 7 access to your stored passwords and credit card information by using another device that also uses the same iCloud Keychain.

There are also a series of screens to set up Siri by saying a bunch of different phrases.

After deciding whether to share Diagnostics and App Analytics data with Apple, you can then customize how the new haptics enabled home button feels when clicked.

Finally, you can choose how big the icons and text looks on the screen on the Display Zoom screen.

Apple probably feels the best way a user can get the best iPhone experience is by going through all these setup screens since it would be harder for users to figure out how to enable all these features if left to their own devices.  Of course, once a user has invested to all this time in setting up the Apple experience, they probably will be less likely to switch to other non-iPhone devices in the future.
