The Huawei Honor Magic phone uses Huawei's owned Magic Power fast charging technology instead of USB Power Delivery over its USB Type-C connector. Through Huawei Magic Power, the phone can achieve 40 watts based charging with its own supplied USB Type-A based power charger accessory.

The Huawei Magic charger claims to support charging using a total of 40 watts (through two 5 volts @ 4 amps power channels) or 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) output power. To see how well it goes on to charge the Huawei Honor Magic, we use the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 analyzer.

When connected to the Huawei Honor Magic using the specially supplied USB Type-A to Type-C cable accessory, the Huawei Magic charger sets both CC1 and CC2 to 4 volts and VBUS goes to 5 volts.

In the first 10 seconds of plugin, the Huawei Honor Magic initially pulls current up to about 3 amps, while the voltage briefly starts off at 5 volts but drops down to 4 volts. The current pulled then gradually goes up to 5.4 amps as the voltage increases with current to eventually settle out at 4.5 volts and achieve 24.3 watts (4.5 volts @ 5.4 amps).  What the analyzer doesn't measure is another set of pins delivering power to the phone in parallel to the standard VBUS to achieve a total of 40W charging.

Care needs to be taken not to lose the specially supplied cable without which 40W can't be delivered.
