Apple made its first Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter to provide USB Power Delivery charging for Apple Macs but the charger can also be used with other non Apple products like the LG G6 phone which also supports USB Power Delivery technology.
The Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter starts communicating with the LG G6 over USB Power Delivery by constantly showing that it supports 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) and 29.6 watts (14.8 volts @ 2 amps) power profiles.
The LG G6 eventually requests to pull 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) which is accepted by the charger.
As the Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter charges the LG G6's battery to about 40% full, the phone is observed to draw 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) from the charger.
It's great to know that the Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter can stretch beyond Apple's platform to charge certain non Apple devices like the LG G6 using USB Power Delivery over USB Type-C.
