While we initially assumed the Moto X4 can use Qualcomm Quick Charge technology under the hood of Motorola TurboPower system other than USB Power Delivery for fast charging over USB Type-C, it appears otherwise when we use the Qualcomm Quick Charge enabled Atomi Power Tower Plus to  power the Moto X4 phone here.

By connecting the Moto X4 to the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 enabled USB Type-A port on the Atomi Power Tower Plus while the phone’s battery is 9% full, we can see how charging happens using the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 power analyzer. The Atomi charger only starts to deliver around 2.6 watts (5.2 volts @ 0.5 amps) charging to the Moto phone when almost 20 seconds from initial plugin while the phone is switched on. After 80 seconds onwards, we can see charging almost never happens which at any point the current pulled is under .1 amps at 5.2 volts.

With such low wattage, the Moto X4 will take a very long time to charge which doesn’t seem to work with the Atomi Power Tower Plus over Qualcomm Quick Charge. Rather, we suggest using the phone’s supplied Motorola TurboPower based charger accessory to provide 15W to charge the phone quickly (click here to see more).
