The Tronsmart Presto 12000mA/h External Battery Charger has been handy to support charging of different Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 based phones but what about a lot of other phones that don't support Qualcomm Quick Charge.

Fortunately, the Tronsmart Presto can be used to charge all other phones so let's see how well it works with a few other USB Type-C phones.

It's important to note that while the Tronsmart Presto supports charging from both the USB Type-A port (Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 based) and the USB Type-C port (15 watts max).  If your phone supports Quick Charge, use the USB Type-A Port.  If the phone supports 15 watts through USB Type-C or USB Power Delivery, use the USB Type-C port.

The following results were done using the USB Type-A port.  We'll later add more test data on charging done on the same phones using the USB Type-C port.

With the USB Power Delivery based Microsoft Lumia 950, charging from Tronsmart Presto is done at 5 volts @ 1.3 amps with the battery well depleted and took less than a couple hours to fully charge.

The Tronsmart Presto also charges the LG Google Nexus 5X at 5 volts @ .6 amps with the battery well charged.

The LG Google Nexus 5X supports a max of 5 volts @ 3 amps charging over USB Type-C although it doesn't support USB Power Delivery.

It takes under 2.5 hours for the Tronsmart Presto to fully charge the LG Google Nexus 5X.

OnePlus 3 supports its own proprietary charging technology over USB Type-C, but it can still be charged by the Tronsmart Presto, which provides 5 volts @ 1.3 amps while the OnePlus 3's battery is well depleted.

It takes under 3 hours for the Tronsmart Presto to fully charge the OnePlus 3.

When we switch over to charging using the USB Type-C port instead, we get interesting results.

When charging the Tronsmart Presto with the LG Google Nexus 5X using the charger's USB Type-C port, even though the LG Google Nexus 5X reports 'Charging rapidly', full charging takes less than 2.5 hours which is similar to when charging with the USB Type-A port.  We will take some oscilloscope screenshots to better see what's going on here, but it looks like the LG Google Nexus 5X is not pulling enough current especially initially.  When the Nexus 5X charges with its own charger, it takes then than a couple hours to fully charge.

Switch back to the Microsoft Lumia 950, when charging the Lumia from Tronsmart Presto using the charger's USB Type-C port instead of the USB Type-A port, it takes about 2 hours to charge fully.

The oscilloscope screen shot below shows that the Microsoft Lumia 950 draws 4.8 volts @ 2.5 amps when its battery is around 10%.  This is higher current than the 1.3 amps pulled when the Tronsmart Presto was charging the Microsoft Lumia 950 using the USB Type-A port.

Coming to the OnePlus 3, while charging  from Tronsmart Presto using the charger's USB Type-C port instead of the USB Type-A port, it takes around 2 hours to charge fully.

When we charged the OnePlus 3 from Tronsmart Presto using the charger's USB Type-C port, the OnePlus 3 drew 5 volts @ 1.4 amps which is similar to the 1.3 amps we observed when using the charger's USB Type-A port.

The Tronsmart Presto charges fastest and more consistently with phones that support Qualcomm Quick Charge using its USB Type-A port.  If you don't have a Qualcomm Quick Charge phone, you can use either the USB Type-A or USB Type-C port depending on what cable you have available without too much of difference in charge time.
