To see if the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) can be properly charged using a non-Apple charging source that supports USB Power Delivery, we will test this Mac with the iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger (click here for Amazon pricing).

This charging activity can be observed using the software from Granite River Labs which captures the USB Power Delivery Protocol transactions.

The iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger initially claims it can deliver power profiles of 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) and 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps).

The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) then requests 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps) from the iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger.

From the oscilloscope screenshot, we can actually see that the iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger delivers about 15 volts @ .7 amps to the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016).

The iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger works with the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) using USB Power Delivery but can only delivery up to 45 watts, meaning it will charge slower compared to using the Mac's own Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter.
