After finding that the Microsoft Xbox One S reported lack of HDR10 support on the Hisense 50H7C 4K Smart TV, we contacted Hisense support to reconcile with that fact that the Hisense product website and literature claim HDR support.

What we learned was startling.  As per the chat transcript below, the Hisense TV did support HDR10 but only for media played over the USB port.  Huh?

This is quite misleading to consumers since most assume a TV supporting HDR10 would be able to play HDR content coming from a Blu-ray player like the Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player or gaming console like the Microsoft Xbox One S.

Hisense did claim that HDR support over HDMI was coming with a firmware fix in October 2016 but in the meantime, don't expect to play HDR content on your Hisense TV over HDMI.
