In an earlier review, nothing seemed to work right on the Surface 3 that I had purchased from the Microsoft Store in Santa Clara, California. After having problems with the Microsoft Type Cover, Stylus, and the USB Charger, I gave up and went back to the Microsoft Store.
Going into the Apple Store for repairs sometimes feel like swimming upstream- it's always hard to schedule a quick appointment and the stores are always crowded. It was refreshing to be able to easily book an appointment at the Microsoft store and actually get a place to sit down without flighting through the masses.
The technical service bar had people mostly dealing with Windows PC issues. One of the nice thing about the Microsoft Store is that they service not only Microsoft hardware products but other companies products that use the Windows Operating System.
After seeing all the issues I had with my Surface 3, the helpful Microsoft Store technicians deemed it a lemon and replaced it on the spot. I suspect that the problematic Surface 3 was one of the first models that had Windows 10 installed and not all the bugs had been worked out and tested.
Warning! Trying to do a factory reset on the Surface 3 takes a really long time compared to the relative quick reset process for Android or iOS. If you want to reset your Surface, make sure you do it before you come into the Microsoft Store. I had to leave my Surface 3 with the Microsoft Store while the Surface reset was going on.
When I turned on the replaced Surface 3, the user experience was night and day compared to the returned unit. All the previous charging, keyboard, and stylus issues were resolved. The entire setup was much easier and using the Surface 3 became enjoyable.
