New streaming media players like Roku 4, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV are all aiming to replace your cable or satellite set-top box. However, traditional set-top boxes still excel at being able to watch premium international channels in a foreign language.
If you want to watch a broader library of Chinese shows, you can try new media players from Baidu and Xiaomi. The Xiaomi Mi Box 3 supports 4K but if you don't have a Chinese mobile number, you can't activate it. The Baidu TV Stick can be set up without needing a Chinese mobile phone which makes it more convenient for non-China based users. Unlike the Mi Box which gets content from Galaxy Internet TV services, the Baidu TV Stick uses Mango TV for its content.
You can watch certain Chinese TV shows and even play games on Baidu TV.
There is also some international movie content like Mission Impossible. Similar to other Internet companies like Amazon and NetFlix, China's Alibaba has been also producing their own films even international films like the newest Mission Impossible film release.
Note similar to trying to watch NetFlix or Amazon outside of the US, some content found on the Baidu TV Stick can't be viewed outside China.
Still if you want access to more Chinese content without having to pay for service, the Baidu TV Stick and Dell UltraSharp Monitor is an affordable route to go.
