Thunderbolt 3 has seen spectacular success in Windows PC adoption despite the fact that there were no Thunderbolt 3 peripherals available to use. Thunderbolt 3 solved this chicken and egg problem by making use of the USB Type-C port which allowed products to also use this port for power, USB, and DisplayPort. Unfortunately, for a while, all the earlier generation of Thunderbolt peripherals which used a mini DisplayPort connector, couldn't even be physically connected to a Thunderbolt 3 PC.
StarTech introduced the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter to help solve this problem, potentially allowing all your Thunderbolt 2 peripherals to be used with Thundebolt 3 PC's.
The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter has a USB Type-C connect on one end that you connect to a Thunderbolt 3 PC. Note this product will not work on a PC that has a non-Thunderbolt enabled USB Type-C connector.
On the other side of the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter, there is a mini DisplayPort connector which you can plug a Thunderbolt 1 or Thunderbolt 2 peripheral to. Don't expect to get Thunderbolt 3 speeds on a Thunderbolt 1 or 2 peripheral just by using Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter.
The StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter works with some Thunderbolt 3 PC's but have problems with others and we'll be keeping track of this here on GTrusted.
