Samsung released the Galaxy J5 Prime in India on October 2016 and continues the line of its popular Galaxy J5 models.  For users that want a Galaxy phone but don't want to pay exorbitant prices for the flagship Samsung Galaxy S7, the J5 models have been a much more affordable option.

As India becomes one of the fastest growing smartphone market in the world, the Galaxy J5 Prime is part of Samsung's Make For India initiative to manufacture products specially designed for the India market.

The Galaxy J5 Prime is powered by Samsung's own Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 based Exynos 7 Quad 7570 processor and packs a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies.  It doesn't have the latest WI-FI technology by only supporting 802.11 b/g/n.  It's powered by a 2400 mAh non-removable battery and comes in two colors- black and gold.

We bought the gold version of the Galaxy J5 Prime from Reliance Digital, Bangalore, India at a cost of 14970/- INR.

The cost of the phone and other details pertaining to the phone were printed on the left side of the box.  Unlike a lot of Chinese phones flooding the India market, the Galaxy J5 Prime is made in New Delhi.

Other than the phone, the box contains the standard earphones, USB cable, SIM ejector tool, user manual, and the USB power adapter.

The Galaxy J5 Prime doesn't support any fast charging technology and just comes with a simple 5 watts (5 volts @ 1 amps) USB charger.  Even the charger is made in India.

On the left of the Galaxy J5 Prime, you'll find the two distinct volume buttons as well as the SIM and micro SD card trays. The Galaxy J5 Prime has dual SIM support where one tray supports SIM 1 and the other tray supports SIM 2 and micro SD card.

To set up the Galaxy J5 Prime, press the power button on right side of phone.  The opening screen displays 'Welcome' and allows you to choose the language of your choice.  Following the language selection, you can join an available WI-FI network. Below are the setup screens for the Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime.

You can also register your fingerprint to unlock your device or set this up later in the settings menu. You can restore apps and data from your old devices.

Once all these steps are followed, you are ready to use the Galaxy J5 Prime.

The Galaxy J5 Prime will continue Samsung's success in its Galaxy J5 series in India and remain popular among budget conscious consumers.
