The stiff competition between Samsung and Apple continues on, with Samsung pushing out its Galaxy S7 Edge while Apple shows off its iPhone 7 Plus.

In terms of features, while the Galaxy S7 Edge stays pretty much consistent with the smaller Galaxy S7, the iPhone 7 on the other hand takes it up a notch with its iPhone 7 Plus

The Galaxy S7 tops the iPhone 7 with a larger display of 5.1" over 4.7". The Galaxy S7 also has a much higher display resolution of 2560 x 1440 than iPhone 7's 1334 x 750 resolution. However, the iPhone 7 offers greater capture from its 7 megapixel front camera than the Galaxy S7's 5 megapixel type. Both share the same specs for their rear cameras at 12 megapixels.

Meanwhile for the larger models, the iPhone 7 Plus has improved its display size to 5.5" to match with the Galaxy S7 Edge, but its resolution of 1920 x 1080 is still lower than the 2560 x 1440 on the Galaxy S7 Edge. While there is no change to the cameras pixel count from their predecessors, the iPhone 7 Plus edges slightly over the Galaxy S7 Edge with an additional rear camera (telephoto).

Generally, both the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 models are water-resistant but with different ratings. The Galaxy S7 is rated IP68 which has a slightly better protection than iPhone 7's IP67. Storage-wise, the Galaxy S7 provides an expandable memory slot which is not available on the iPhone 7.

A more significant difference by comparison is the reversible Lightning connector on the iPhone 7, while the Galaxy S7 still adopts the standard microUSB port. When it comes to software, the Galaxy S7 runs on Google’s Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow which gives you the S-Voice virtual assistant. The iPhone 7 meanwhile operates on Apple’s iOS 10 and supports Siri.

While the Galaxy S7 offers wireless charging as an optional accessory, the iPhone 7 can't compete as it needs a third party solution.

As both are competitive in their features and specifications, it is hard to decide which phone is the best. If you are not tied to a specific eco-system (iTunes or Google Play), you have choices. If you are invested on either platform's eco-system, then you may gravitate to stay with that brand.
