When you connect the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro to your Apple Mac, you have to use Android File Transfer.  If you already have Android File Transfer installed, you can immediately see the folders in your Xiaomi Mi Note Pro.  If not, Xiaomi has conveniently created a read-only drive folder which will show up automatically on your Mac.  In this drive, you can install Android File Transfer from the .dmg install file.  I used the MacBook Pro (Late 2013) for this example.
