Video professionals have to deal with a large number of interfaces in the entire media acquisition and production workflow. At NAB 2016, Blackmagic does not disappoint, with a dazzling array of interface adapter products to help professionals manage their 4K media workflow.
One of the new interface technologies that Blackmagic promoted was 12G-SDI. 12G-SDI is the professional equipment developed by The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) that can support unencrypted 4K@60Hz video. 12G-SDI is the professional equivalent to the encrypted HDMI 2.0 interface that consumers find on their TV's which support encrypted 4K@60Hz video.
At NAB, Blackmagic showed off its wide range of 12G-SDI converter products.
Another new interface technology that Blackmagic promoted at NAB 2016 was Thunderbolt 3, which supports 40 Gb/s link connections. Blackmagic puts 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3 together in the new UltraStudio 4K Extreme 3, which supports 4K@60Hz capture and playback. With Thunderbolt 3, you can quickly transfer 4K content to high-capacity Thunderbolt 3 storage devices, while displaying them on two 4K displays.
