Belkin was the first to come up with a USB Type-C car charger supporting USB Power Delivery, the Belkin USB-C Car Charger + Cable. Let's see how this charger works with the HP Chromebook 13 G1.
First, we verify USB Power Delivery negotiation between the charger and the Chromebook using software from Granite River Labs.
All of the USB Power Delivery Source Capabilities from the Belkin USB-C Car Charger + Cable contained the same two available PDO's (Power Data Objects), both at 3 amps, but providing either 5 or 9 volts, for a total of 15 or 27 watts respectively.
Initially, the HP Chromebook 13 G1 requested the first PDO of 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps).
Later the HP Chromebook 13 G1 requested the second PDO of 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps).
Here we can see the HP Chromebook 13 G1 pulling 9 volts @ 1.8 amps from the Belkin USB-C Car Charger + Cable. Note these measurements were taken when the HP Chromebook 13 G1 was nearly fully charged. We'll next compare that with the Chromebook's battery depleted.
The Belkin USB-C Car Charger + Cable works well with the HP Chromebook 13 G1, allowing you to conveniently charge your Chromebook between meetings or during long commutes.
