In a general case, when you hot-plug the LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt External Hard Drive (USB 3.0), using legacy Thunderbolt adapters like the StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter into the Thunderbolt 3 port of the ASUS Q524UQ notebook, you would expect a message window to pop up on the bottom right corner of your screen, telling you to approve the Thunderbolt device before use. This did not happen with the ASUS Q524UQ like we have seen with other Thunderbolt 3 based PC's.

What's worse, when we connected the StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter, the ASUS Q524UQ's trackpad stopped working along with its touch screen. Despite multiple reboots, the ASUS Q524UQ exhibited the same behavior.

We had updated the PC with the latest BIOS, firmware, and Thunderbolt drivers as per this review.

We even tried attaching different Thunderbolt 2 peripherals at the other end of the StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter but again we saw the same behavior.

We concluded that StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter has problems enumerating with the AUSU Q524UQ which doesn't help when you want to connect to pre-Thunderbolt 3 peripherals like the LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt External Hard Drive (USB 3.0) to this PC.
