While Making a Phone Call on the Google Pixel, Inserting JBL's USB-C Headset Can Reset the Phone

Following the lead of other brands, the new Google Pixel 2 phone has removed the 3.5mm analog audio port, making users rely on Bluetooth headsets or USB Type-C based audio headphones like the JBL Reflect Aware C.

However, while being on a conference call with the previous generation Google Pixel phone, we found that upon insertion of the JBL Reflect Aware C into the USB Type-C port of the phone, the phone actually froze and had to restart. This is an unexpected reminder of some of the added complexities involved as USB is being used more and more for audio and charging as was seen in a previous review on how plugging in a Huawei phone could restart a Tesla.

We were not able to repeatedly produce this problem and suspect it was related to whatever state the phone was in and what applications were running on the phone at the time. In general the JBL Reflect Aware C works well with the Google Pixel, and hopefully this corner case issue was caught and resolved with the new Google Pixel 2.
