mophie is a well known brand of mobile solutions and released the mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL for USB Power Delivery enabled products including Apple Mac's as well as certain Windows based notebooks like the Acer Chromebook R 13. Let's see how the mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL charges the Acer Chromebook R 13 using USB Power Delivery 2.0 technology over USB Type-C.

After connecting the Acer Chromebook R 13 with around 97% charged battery to the mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL which itself was about 80% charged, initially no current was pulled by the Chromebook from the mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL while the voltage started up at 5 volts. This went on for about 2 minutes without any charging activity but as the voltage then increased to 12 volts, the power charging initiated and went through a USB Power Delivery negotiation resulting in 30 watts of steady state charging. Click here to download the trace captured by the GRL-A1 power analyzer to see more details on how the mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL at 80% battery, charged the Acer Chromebook R 13 at 97% battery charge.

While 30 watts provides a slower charging speed compared to the 45 watts that you can get from the Acer Chromebook R 13 own power adapter, the  mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL still comes handy anytime you need to recharge your battery if ever the original charger just happens to be out of reach.
