The Microsoft Lumia 950 was one of the first phones supporting the full capabilities of USB Type-C including USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s), USB Power Delivery for fast charging, and DispayPort Alt Mode.  Microsoft has also done quite a bit to extend the Windows desktop experience into mobile by leveraging USB Type-C.

With the StarTech 4-in-1 Travel A/V Adapter with USB-C, you can extend the Windows experience from the Lumia 950 to any display or TV like the Samsung UHD 4K Flat Smart TV- JU6000.

In this setup, we will use a HDMI cable to connect the StarTech 4-in-1 Travel A/V Adapter with USB-C to the Samsung UHD 4K Flat Smart TV- JU6000.

We will then connect the StarTech 4-in-1 Travel A/V Adapter with USB-C to the USB Type-C port of the Microsoft Lumia 950

Make sure you choose the right HDMI input source for your display (in this case the StarTech 4-in-1 Travel A/V Adapter with USB-C was connected to HDMI Input 2).

The Microsoft Lumia 950 will pop up the screen as shown in (Fig a).  If you don't see these screens the first time, you may need to reconnect the cables. Next select "I see it", and you'll find yourself in the screen as shown in (Fig b)- you can choose to watch the video or skip it.

Your display should look like what is shown in (Fig c).

(Fig d) shows what you should see on the Microsoft Lumia 950 which can now serve as a touchpad to control the Windows desktop that you see on the TV.

When surfing the web, this setup almost feels like you are using a regular computer and its mouse pad.

Make sure you only use certified HDMI cables.  One of the HDMI cable we tried caused the TV not to link up with the StarTech 4-in-1 Travel A/V Adapter with USB-C.
