Curious to know if the Huawei Magic charger can be used as alternative power supply for your Xiaomi Mi 6? You can find out here if in case the phone needs a quick charge and its own Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger is out of reach. Note the Mi 6 can also take advantage of USB Power Delivery 3.0 fast charging in addition to Qualcomm Quick Charge.

The Huawei USB Type-A based Magic charger was originally made to supplement charging for the Huawei Honor Magic phone using Huawei's  proprietary Magic Power technology. For optimum charging performance, the charger must be used with the specially supplied USB Type-A to Type-C cable accessory which is connected to the Honor phone. Since the Huawei Magic Power technology offers 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) based charging to non Magic Power supported phones like the Mi 6, we see how this works using the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 test software.

We first connect the Huawei Magic USB Type-A to Type-C cable in between the Huawei Magic charger and the 2% charged Mi 6. While the phone is on, we can see it starts pulling current up to about 1.8 amps over 5.3 volts charging. However after only 1 second, the phone suddenly stops pulling current and begins to trickle charge. When reaching 20 seconds, no charging eventually happens as the current level stays at zero while the voltage remains at 5.3 volts.

Unfortunately, the Huawei Magic charger is not able to charge the Mi 6 phone using Huawei Magic Power. This is one of the risks with a proprietary implementation like Huawei Magic Power, which has problems working with other phones like the Mi 6.
