What happens when you plug in your ZTE Nubia Z17 phone to a Mac like the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) to get charged up? Here we see how the Mac acts as a power bank to provide USB Power Delivery charging to the Nubia phone which also supports USB Power Delivery over USB Type-C. (Keep in mind that the Mac consumes its own battery power in order to charge the phone if the AC power is not plugged.)

With a 28% full battery, the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) starts USB Power Delivery negotiations by repeatedly declaring only a single 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) power profile to the 9% charged Nubia Z17.

We see that the Nubia Z17 takes a while to eventually request the 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) which the Mac then accepts.

When first connected over USB Type-C to the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) on a 28% battery while the phone is on, the Nubia Z17 starts off briefly pulling around 12.5 watts (5 volts @ 2.5 amps) but the current then drops to 2 amps in the first 50 seconds. After 50 seconds, the current goes back up to 3 amps for charging to eventually happen at around 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) when the phone's battery is 9%.

The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) is able to charge the Nubia Z17 at a similar power level as when using the phone's own Qualcomm Quick Charge based charger, which is good to know if you ever need to quick charge your phone and don't have the phone's charger around.
