The Windows based Microsoft Surface Book 2 enables fast charging using USB Power Delivery 2.0 technology over its USB Type-C connector. This allows the 2-in-1 notebook PC to stay charged by many different chargers including the AUKEY PA-Y7 USB Type-C Wall Charger supporting USB Power Delivery up to 29W.

To determine how well this third party charger powers the Microsoft Surface Book 2 with its battery at 6% charged, we use the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 analysis software to closely observe charging over USB Power Delivery protocol communications.

When directly connected over USB Type-C, the Aukey charger is observed to declare USB Power Delivery profiles of 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), and 29 watts (14.5 volts @ 2 amps) to the Microsoft Surface Book 2.

The Microsoft Surface Book 2 initially requests the highest 29 watts (14.5 volts @ 2 amps) power option which is accepted by the Aukey charger.

Here we confirm that the 6% charged Microsoft Surface Book 2 can get powered by the AUKEY PA-Y7 USB Type-C Wall Charger to achieve around 28 watts (14.6 volts @ 1.9 amps) of stable charging when the PC is powered on.

You can use the AUKEY PA-Y7 USB Type-C Wall Charger as an alternative power source for the Microsoft Surface Book 2, although the PC can expect faster charging with its own 39W based Surface charger accessory.
