The Apple Watch has been selling well at the expense of other wearables in the market but to maintain complete control over the user experience, Apple only allows you to pair your Apple Watch to your iPhone.

To create the simplest of setups, Apple has already the Apple Watch App pre-loaded on your iPhone's screen.  This is also a handy way for Apple to advertise the Watch to all its users.

start pairing

After you press the Apple Watch App, press Start Pairing to start the pairing process.  You will then need to align the iPhone's camera with the face of the watch in order to pair them together.  This pairing method is pretty unique for Apple since most other wearable products use a Bluetooth number code based pairing procedure- Apple's method is easier to use and probably helps to deter counterfeiters.

Once you have the App has recognized the visual coded graphic on the Apple Watch, the pairing process is complete.

From here, you can continue the setup process by selecting your wrist, diagnostics, and app preferences.  You also need to sign in with your Apple ID.

The Apple Watch App and Mac (if open) will then show a message letting you know that a new Apple Watch has been set up on Apple's iMessage and associated with your Apple ID and phone number.

Once paired, you can use your Apple Watch as a seamless extension of your iPhone to make calls, receive notifications, send and receive text messages, etc.

Another unique thing about the Apple Watch compared to others is the way you find and open its applications.  It really optimizes being able to navigate through your Apps on such a small screen.  The  Apple Watch's touch screen is also amazingly accurate to be able to easily select the App you want to open even with a large finger tip on small screen.

Note if you decide to change your iPhone you will need to reset the Apple Watch Settings in order to work with the new iPhone.

You also need to make sure your WI-FI and Bluetooth is turned on your iPhone.  The Apple Watch uses a combination of both depending on what bandwidth is needed to transfer data from your iPhone to the watch.
