The GoPro HERO5 Black was one of the first action cameras in the market that supports USB Power Delivery fast charging with its own GoPro Supercharger accessory. Let's see if this camera can be powered using the Samsung 25W USB-C Fast Charging Wall Charger which supports Samsung’s proprietary Adaptive Fast Charging scheme over USB Type-A rather than USB Power Delivery for rapid charging.
The Samsung 25W USB-C Fast Charging Wall Charger offers to output 25 watts (12 volts @ 2.1 amps), 15 watts (9 volts @ 1.67 amps) and 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) charging through its USB Type-A port. After connecting the GoPro HERO5 Black with the Samsung 25W charger using a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, we observe how charging happens via the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 test software when the GoPro’s battery is fully depleted.
Looking at the power graph, the GoPro HERO5 Black upon initial plugin at 0% battery starts pulling 0.3 amps but eventually only pulls slightly higher current to snail charge at about 2.5 watts (5 volts @ 0.5 amps) with the Samsung 25W charger.
Since the Samsung 25W USB-C Fast Charging Wall Charger doesn't support USB Power Delivery, the GoPro HERO5 Black doesn't draw enough power from it to be able to charge as quickly as using the GoPro Supercharger which does support USB Power Delivery (see review here).
