The Moto Z Droid phone supports charging through USB Power Delivery over USB Type-C, so let's see if it can be charged using an external charger like the Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger (click here for Amazon pricing) which is also USB Power Delivery enabled.

We can see from the USB Power Delivery negotiations that the Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger constantly shows off 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 37.5 watts (15 volts @ 2.5 amps) power profiles from which the Moto Z Droid  requests 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) which the charger accepts.

The Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger later advertises not only the 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 37.5 watts (15 volts @ 2.5 amps) it initially declared but also an additional power profile of 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps). The Moto Z Droid still continues on to request 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) which the charger complies.

On a well charged battery, we can see that the Moto Z Droid is being charged at around 2.5 watts (5 volts @ 0.5 amps) which is much lower than the 3 amps negotiated. Unfortunately, with only 2.5W, the Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger is not able to charge the Moto Z Droid quickly over its USB Type-C connector using USB Power Delivery.
