The Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger (click here for Amazon pricing) enables fast charging using USB Power Delivery technology over its USB Type-C port up to 45W. Let's see how this third party charger powers the USB Power Delivery enabled Google Pixel phone.

The USB Power Delivery negotiations initially show that the Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger declares its source capabilities of 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), 37.5 watts (15 volts @ 2.5 amps). The Google Pixel requests to pull 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) which is accepted by the charger.

Later on the Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger declares that it supports not only the 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 37.5 watts (15 volts @ 2.5 amps) it initially declared but also an additional power profile of 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps). The Google Pixel again requests to pull 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) which the charger accepts.

While the Google Pixel's battery is already well charged, the phone is observed to pull around 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) before the current steadily drops to about 1.5 amps as the battery is almost full.

It's good to see an external charger like the Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger can be used to charge the Google Pixel using USB Power Delivery technology.
