The Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger (click here for Amazon pricing) enables fast charging using USB Power Delivery technology over its USB Type-C port up to 45W. Let's see how fast this third party charger supplies power to the USB Power Delivery enabled LG G6 phone.

The Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger starts negotiating USB Power Delivery with the LG G6 by constantly declaring its charging profiles of 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 37.5 watts (15 volts @ 2.5 amps). The LG G6 in turn requests to pull 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) from the charger which it accepts.

The Targus charger then goes on to offer not only 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 37.5 watts (15 volts @ 2.5 amps) it initially declared but also an additional power profile of 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps). The LG G6 however still insists on 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) which the charger complies.

While the Targus charger powers the LG G6, we can see that the charging current level is unstable at first but eventually settles at 2.25 amps @ 5 volts (11.25 watts).

The Targus 45W USB Type-C Laptop AC Wall Charger can be used to charge the LG G6 over USB Power Delivery but not consistently.
