The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 supports quick charging using either USB Power Delivery or Samsung's proprietary Adaptive Fast Charging technology over its USB Type-C connector. This allows the phone to be used with other USB Power Delivery enabled chargers like the Meizu USB Type-A based AC charger that came with the Meizu Pro 7 Plus phone.

For USB Power Delivery implementation over USB Type-A, the Meizu charger needs to be used with the Meizu's owned USB Type-A to Type-C cable that was also supplied with the Meizu phone. When connected to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, we see how charging happens over USB Power Delivery using the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 app.

The Meizu charger starts negotiating USB Power Delivery with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 by advertising its source capabilities of 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) and variable 4.98 to 9.96 watts (3-6 volts @ 1.66 amps).

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 subsequently requests an initial 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) which the Meizu charger then accepts. Next we can see both charger and phone exchanging Vendor Defined Messages such as Discover Identity's and SVIDs'.

From the power graph we actually observe the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 takes over 90 seconds to finally start charging with the Meizu charger upon initial plugin. At the first 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) request, the phone briefly pulls around 2 amps @ 5 volts but the current quickly drops to about 1.2 amps as Vendor Defined Messages are exchanged. The current pulled then picks up again 13 seconds later to achieve a power level of around 10.6 watts (5.3 volts @ 2 amps).

The Meizu charger is able to charge the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 using USB Power Delivery although it takes almost 1 minute and 45 seconds for the resulting 10.6 watts charging to happen. However, the phone should expect to get up to 18 watts through Samsung's proprietary charging scheme with its own Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger accessory.
