How the Moto X4 Phone Behaves Over Qualcomm Quick Charge with the Ventev Wallport rq2300 Charger

The Moto X4 phone uses Motorola’s own TurboPower brand of rapid charging as well as standard USB Power Delivery technology over USB Type-C.

To see if you can use a third party power option like the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3 enabled Ventev Wallport rq2300 Wall Charger with the Moto X4, we quickly find out using the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 analyzer.

When connected to one of the USB Type-A ports of the Ventev charger that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge, the Moto X4 starts charging at 4.9 volts by pulling current to about 1.6 amps when the phone is 9% charged and switched on. When reaching 20 seconds, the current quickly drops to below .1 amps and rises again to about 0.5 amps for the phone to only slow charge at a mere 2.5 watts (5 volts @ 0.5 amps) when active.

As observed, the Ventev Wallport rq2300 Wall Charger at most only supplies initially not more than 8 watts when the Moto X4 is in sleep mode. By comparison, the phone actually gets up to 15W when used with the Motorola charger through TurboPower based charging (see this review).

The Moto X4 unfortunately doesn’t really work over Qualcomm Quick Charge as seen with various chargers such as the Atomi Power Tower Plus (click here) and the LG 16W Travel Adapter (this review).
