The Google Pixel 2 XL which supports USB Power Delivery for fast charging could work expectedly well with its own supplied 18W USB-C Power Adapter accessory as recently tested. Now we see how fast this phone gets fully charged by the Google charger when the battery is completely drained.

In a similar way, we observe USB Power Delivery communications using Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 power analyzer after connecting both the Google phone and charger over USB Type-C. The Pixel 2 18W USB-C Power Adapter is seen once again to first display 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) and 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) source capabilities which keep on repeating for some time.

The Google Pixel 2 XL is also seen to eventually seal power delivery contract of max 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) with the Google charger.

Here we can see that the Google Pixel 2 XL takes around 170 minutes to charge completely with the Pixel 2 18W USB-C Power Adapter via USB Power Delivery, starting with 0% battery when the phone is powered off.

From initial plugin as the first power request is made, the phone starts off pulling around 18 watts (2 amps @ 9 volts) for a very brief amount of time before drawing only 1.8 amps to charge at about 16.4 watts during the first few minutes of charging. This is the maximum power that is drawn over the entire charging cycle. The current pulled then drops lower as the phone is switched on where it charges to around 10.9 watts (9.1 volts @ 1.2 amps) within the first hour.

After about 66 minutes of charging, the current pulled gradually goes down to around 0.2 amps @ 9.1 volts.

The current eventually decreases to less than .1 amps towards the end of charging.

The Google Pixel 2 XL takes about the same amount of time as the Google Pixel (as seen here) to fully charge with their own 18W chargers. Both were also not observed to achieve the max 18 watts during the entire power charging cycle.
