The Google Pixel 2 XL seems to charge slowly using the third party 24W based Verizon USB Type-C Wall Charger with Fast Charge Technology through USB Power Delivery 2.0 technology. The phone was observed to pull just about 7.4 watts with frequent current spikes from the Verizon charger. This power is more similar to the 7.5 watts allowed from USB Battery Charging 1.2 spec which provides a decent level of charging but certainly not to the level that would be considered needing for rapid charging nowadays.
Despite the slower charging than when using the original Google 18W charger, you can still power the Google Pixel 2 XL using the Verizon USB Type-C Wall Charger with Fast Charge Technology if you have no access to the Google charger.
