The Microsoft Lumia 950 makes up for the lack of apps that comes with Microsoft Windows phones by fully leveraging the USB Type-C capabilities. The phone was the first to support USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) speeds and DisplayPort 1.2 over USB Type-C which were previously only found on tablets or notebook products like the Google Pixel C, Chromebook Pixel (2015), and MacBook (Early 2015). Many other USB Type-C phones like the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P only support USB 2.0 (480 Mb/s) speeds and no DisplayPort.
With the better USB Type-C connector, the Microsoft Lumia 950 is able to extend the Windows 10 PC experience from the phone as well as transfer files quickly to a SuperSpeed USB drive or a Windows 10 PC. It also supports USB Power Delivery technology for rapid charging over USB Type-C.
Here we take a closer look at the Microsoft Lumia 950 after purchasing the phone from an AT&T retail store. Also see how we unpacked the original release version of the phone that we bought from Expansys.
The AT&T Lumia 950 sports a Windows orange design on its packaging which looks more like the typical smartphone box when compared to the much larger original blue and white version.
We notice the AT&T package contents don't mention the audio earbud style headphones that previously came with the original Lumia phone.
Removing the box contents, you will immediately see the familiar AT&T's texting and driving "It Can Wait" sticker on top of the Lumia phone.
Here we actually see that the AT&T Lumia 950 comes with an AC adapter with USB Type-C cable, USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable, removable battery that you insert into the back of the phone, SIM card, and documentation.
Also notice that for the AT&T version, there's an additional AT&T logo on the back of the Lumia 950 phone.
The AT&T Microsoft Lumia 950 is an affordable way to get a Windows experience on a mobile setting.
