Usually most devices you find in the Apple Store that work with the iPhone will also work with the iPad. Both the iPad and iPhone have similar chipsets inside and have the same operating system. That's why it's interesting that Apple has decided to control the Apple Watch user experience to such an extent that both non-Apple devices as well as Apple's own iPad's will not work with the Apple Watch.
Apple's iPad still maintains a dominant market share in the tablet space while the iPhone is facing increased competition in a very crowded market. Perhaps this is a way to give customers another reason to keep on buying iPhones. For loyal iPad users, this is more disappointing.
