The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) enjoys fast charging with its own Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter but this Apple charger can also be used to power the Huawei P10 phone which also supports USB Power Delivery technology. Here we see how well this charger works with the phone on a 3% battery when directly connected with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable.

We can see from the USB Power Delivery negotiations that the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter is constantly showing that it supports 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) power profile.

When the Apple charger again advertises its 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) source capability after a hard reset, we finally observe the Huawei P10 requests 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) and gets accepted by the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter.

We also observe that the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter offers not only the initial 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) but also 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) and 86 watts (20 volts @ 4.3 amps) power profiles.

The Huawei phone can be seen to take advantage of the additional power profiles to request 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) and is accepted by the Apple charger.

While the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter starts charging the Huawei P10 from 3% battery in sleep mode, the phone appears to pull an initial 0.5 amps @ 5 volts but later draws an average of 15.7W with current ranging from 1.5 to 2 amps at 9 volts. After 40 seconds, the current can be seen to stabilize for charging to happen at around 14.4 watts (9 volts @ 1.6 amps) with the Apple charger.

While this power is lower than what the phone's own Huawei SuperCharge charger can offer, the Huawei P10 can still be charged reasonably well with the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter using standard USB Power Delivery.
