The Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W was originally released with the Google Chromebook Pixel (2015) but you can use it for many other devices supporting USB Power Delivery like the Dell XPS 15 9550 Laptop.  Let's see how well these devices work together.

Using software from Granite River Labs, we can see that the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W declares it can support 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 60 watts (20 volts @ 3 amps) power profiles.

The Dell XPS 15 9550 Laptop then makes multiple requests to the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W to pull 20 volts @ 3 amps (60 watts) and eventually one request is accepted.

Even though the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W is charging the Dell XPS 15 9550 Laptop, the USB Power Delivery protocol negotiation  then becomes somewhat strange between the Dell XPS 15 9550 Laptop and Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W with a lot more  continual VConn power swap rejections than what we saw with same charger and the Dell XPS 13 9350 Laptop from a previous review.

Functionally the Dell XPS 15 9550 Laptop and the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W get the job done with the 60 watts of charging happening, but the USB Power Delivery protocol negotiation isn't pretty.
