The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) is provided with its own Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter for optimal charging over the USB Type-C connector but the charger can also power certain non Apple based PC's like the Thunderbolt 3 enabled Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017). With that, we shall see how fast the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter charges the Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) using USB Power Delivery over its USB Type-C port which supports Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Gen 2, DisplayPort, and USB Power Delivery technology.

The Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter starts communicating with the Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) over USB Power Delivery by declaring only a single 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) power profile from which the PC requests and accepted by the charger.

The Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter goes on to offer not only the 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) it initially declared but also two other power profiles : 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) and 60 watts (20 volts @ 3 amps). The Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) in turn requests to draw 60 watts (20 volts @ 3 amps) which the charger then accepts.

With the Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017)'s battery being already well charged, the notebook is observed to pull around 40 watts (20 volts @ 2 amps) before the current steadily drops to about 1.5 amps as the battery is almost full.

The Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) seems to charge faster with the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter using USB Power Delivery than its own 45 watts USB Type-C based AC adapter that comes with the notebook. It's also good knowing that the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter can also be used to charge a Windows based Thunderbolt 3 enabled PC like the Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) quickly other than its own Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016).
