Not everyone needs or owns a Xiaomi phone but everyone could use a Xiaomi power bank to charge your phone.  Xiaomi has been so successful with this product category, that even in countries like Taiwan where very few people buy Xiaomi phones, a lot of people own the power bank given its super low price.

One of the latest products in Xiaomi's "shake up the market" strategy is the Xiaomi 20000mAh Mi Power Bank, which offers the largest battery capacity yet at a ridiculously low price. The 20000mAh Mi Power Bank comes in an environmentally friendly ABS plastic housing with a textured pattern aimed at improving grip

We purchased the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank from Mi.com in India at it cost us just 2149 INR (click here for Amazon US pricing).  Delivery was fast and delivered in packaging that doesn't let you forget you purchased a Mi product.

The box contains a USB Type-A to USB micro B cable that can be used to charge the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank from a separate USB Type-A power adapter, but there isn't a wall charger included in the box.

When charging the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank itself, you can use a 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) charger into the USB micro-B port.  However, you can also use Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology to charge the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank through the USB micro-B port using the following power profiles: 5 volts @ 2 amps, 9 volts @ 2 amps, 12 volts @ 1.5 amps, thus providing a max of 18 watts.  Use of Quick Charge 2.0 to charge the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank is an interesting concept since usually this technology is used between the power adapter and the phone, rather than a power adapter and a power bank.

The 20000mAh MI Power bank has two USB Type-A ports that allow you to charge two devices simultaneously.  Each USB Type-A port offer 5.1 volts @ 3.6 amps of simultaneous charging.

There's a four-LED capacity indicator at the top of that shows the charge remaining, with each LED corresponding to a 25% charge. The 20000mAh Mi Power Bank automatically switches on and off as soon as you connect a device, but there's a dedicated power button on the right as well. Xiaomi bundles a one-foot long flat micro-USB cable out of the box.

We charged the 20000mAh MI Power bank with the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W while the Mi power bank was roughly 75% charged and observed that it pulled 5 volts @ 1 amps.

We then observed that the 20000mAh MI Power bank pulls about 5 volts @ 1.3 amps from the HP 45W Smart AC Adaptor that comes with the  HP Elitebook Folio Notebook PC (W8H05PA)

When 20000mAh MI Power bank connects with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 enabled Xiaomi Mi 5 power adaptor, it pulls about 12 volts @ 1.5 amps.

When 20000mAh MI Power bank connects with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 enabled  Tronsmart Presto 12000mA/h External Battery Charger Type-A Port, it pulls about 5 volts @ 0.8 amps.

Stay tuned for more tests we are running on the Xiaomi's 20000mAh Mi Power Bank.
